“I can only imagine…..”

My exact thoughts for real.  I can only imagine. I can only imagine what Michelle did when she arrived in Heaven and stood before Jesus. Did she dance? Did she sing? Did she speak at all? I wish I knew. I wish she could tell me.

Keith and I went to see the movie today.

mercy

Though very emotional for both of us, I’m glad we went. You see, when I was going through cancer, I would often have to think about my own death. I mean, what if my treatments didn’t work? I prayed (as so many others did with me) that I would live, to be here for my kids. Just 3rd, 5th, and 9th grades at the time. And then one day, I heard this song. And it moved me so much. What would do if I died and was standing before Jesus. It gave me pause.

Fast forward. It was August 3rd or 4th of 2017. All of the days that week ran together. One continuous long day with little to no sleep. We sat at my Mom and Dad’s dining room table. And Kim L. and our Deacon at St. Catherine were there to help me and Keith and my family plan Michelle’s Funeral Mass. It would be one of the last things that we could do for Michelle. And I wanted it perfect for her. There was one song I knew I had to have for her. Because while I listened in 2014, and thought of my own meeting with Jesus….this was way more real. For Michelle did meet Jesus, just a few days before.  Picking lectors, picking pall bearers, picking Eucharistic ministers. But one thing stood in the forefront of my mind. And it was this song. And so, a fabulous musician from St. C, and friend to Keith, Jon Guth, played and sang this song at Michelle’s Funeral Mass. The words were so fitting for our sweet, sweet girl. I just knew I had to have it sung for her. We are grateful to Jon for this.

I can only imagine what it will be like
When I walk, by your side
I can only imagine what my eyes will see
When you face is before me
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
Surrounded by You glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for you Jesus
Or in awe of You be still
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
I can only imagine when that day comes
When I find myself standing in the Son
I can only imagine when all I would do is forever
Forever worship You
I can only imagine
I can only imagine
Surrounded by Your glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for You, Jesus
Or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
I can only imagine hey ya ah
Surrounded by Your glory
What will my heart feel
Will I dance for You, Jesus
Or in awe of you be still
Will I stand in Your presence
Or to my knees will I fall
Will I sing hallelujah
Will I be able to speak at all
I can only imagine
I can only imagine hey ya ah
I can only imagine yeah yeah
I can only imagine
I can only imagine ey ey ey
I can only imagine
I can only imagine when all I will do
Is forever, forever worship You
I can only imagine
